Market Information

The OVA receives weekly market information from several sources.

The foundation of the the OVA market information is based on live sales that is derived from auction market data that is submitted to the Ontario Cattlemen's Association for analysis. This information is based entirely on a live weight basis.

Currently, the OVA does not receive any rail grade market information for Ontario veal carcasses from processors or buyers.

REMINDER TO ALL ONTARIO VEAL PRODUCERS:  < < < < < < < < NEW < < < < < <

The new and revised regulations that impact the enforcement of veal carcass weights will come into effect on
October 1st, 2009.  Attached is a factsheet prepared by OMAFRA that was sent to all veal plants.
From this factsheet you can see the requirements for processors to have proper weighted
carcasses if they want to market and sell the carcasses as veal.  This same information was
recently published in the Ontario Veal News.  Each veal  plant will have to prepare a protocol
of how they will comply with these regulations.  It is important that you ship proper weighted
calves in order to ensure you maximize the marketplace and do not get "docked" for overweight carcasses.
Overweight carcasses become ungraded beef and will be priced accordingly by the buyer.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the OVA office at 519-824-2942
